BASILDON groups dedicated to the arts were given a cash boost.
Frank Tomlin, former chairman of Basildon Council, handed out two cheques to the Basildon Arts Trust and the Basildon Choral Society.
It was the last act Mr Tomlin carried out before standing down as chairman, to make way for new chairman, Mo Larkin.
Geoff Williams, who spoke on behalf of both charities, thanked the chairman and council for its support.
Speaking about the choral society, he said: “We will be putting the money towards acquiring a piano, so we can achieve an ambition without having to beg and borrow.”
The money was handed over during a full council meeting.
