RESIDENTS can save money and learn how to reduce their impact on the environment while they shop in Southend.

The Energy Saving Trust will be at the Royals shopping centre with Southend Borough Council to help people save money on fuel and heating bills.

As part of the United Nations World Environment Day, on Saturday, June 6, it will be giving helpful tips and advice that could help residents save up to £340 a year on home energy bills.

For example, just turning a home thermostat down one degree could save some households £65 a year on fuel bills.

There will also be information from Vauxhall as to how much money drivers can save by using eco-cars and the impact doing so has on the environment.

Shoppers can visit the Fairtrade stand, and the Southend recycling and waste management team will be on hand to share useful tips.

There will also be advice on applying for a council tax rebate of up to £125 for each household investing in home insulation through British Gas.

The Energy Saving Trust provides free impartial advice to help you save money and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from your home and on the roads.
