YOUNG Royal Mail apprentices are organising a charity fun day.

The trainee posties have pulled out all the stops for the family event on Saturday, June 13, at the Royal Mail Sports and Social Club, in Gardiners Lane South, Basildon.

Attractions will include a five-a-side football tournament involving 24 teams, assault courses, bouncy castles, clay pottery and a rock wall climbing challenge.

All money raised will go to Little Havens children’s hospice.

Food, drink and music will also be flowing, with a Caribbean-themed barbecue and cocktail bar, as well as a regular barbecue.

Local bands, an Elvis impersonator and a DJ will be performing throughout the day and into the evening.

Last year’s apprentices raised £7,500 and more than 1,000 people turned out to enjoy the day. This year’s crew of 11 have set themselves the challenge of doubling that.

Martin Childs, Royal Mail customer service manager, said: “This year’s fun day promises to be very special.

“It’s a great community day and fun for all the family.

“We’ve tried to keep the attractions as cheap as possible so everybody can have a great time.”

Entrance is free, but there are charges for some attractions, the event will run from noon until around 10pm.
