THE first ever Armed Forces Day has proved popular in Basildon, where a new flag is being flown.
Councillors joined representatives from the military and police force to gather outside the Basildon Centre, in St Martin’s Square, as the special Armed Forces flag was proudly displayed.
It was designed especially for Armed Forces Day by the Ministry of Defence and raising it was part of a morning of special events held in the town to honour Army, Navy and RAF servicemen and women who risk their lives for our country. Chairman of Basildon council, Mo Larkin said: “An event such as this generates an enormous amount of pride and appreciation for the work the Armed Forces perform in often very difficult conditions.
“I’m sure this show of support will demonstrate our sense of community pride in the important role that our forces play across the world.”
