A POPULAR late-night bar can stay open and continue with its cheap drinks deal, as long as it abides by a strict set of conditions.

The Sky Bar on Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park faced possible closure after police appealed for its licence to be reviewed.

Yesterday, at a hearing, Basildon Council’s licensing sub-committee ruled the club could keep going, but had to stick by some new rules.

These included introducing plastic glasses and sending employees on a course to learn how to spot someone who has had too much to drink.

Chief Supt Maurice Mason, from Basildon Police, is convinced the bar’s controversial promotion deal, which gives people entry and all their drinks for between £12 and £15, is the cause of escalating trouble at Bas Vegas.

Sky Bar bosses disagree.
