A SUPERMARKET has won permission to build a second floor selling clothes and create up to 40 jobs.
Basildon Council approved plans from retail giant Asda to build a large mezzanine floor in its store at the Pipps Hill Retail Park, off Miles Gray Road, Basildon, at a planning meeting on Tuesday night.
The plans will see an extra 1,290 square metres of sales space created in the shop, allowing enough room to open a new clothing section selling the retail giant's popular George brand, and a restaurant.
Under the plans the new floor means the shop could expand its lines of toiletries and electrical goods, while current food aisles in the main part of the shop will be widened.
Between 35 to 40 new part time jobs will be created following the build, which Asda hopes to begin at some point next year.
