FURIOUS residents and councillors are opposing plans for more housing at an old school site.

The complaints were voiced after proposals were discussed for a second phase of 123 more homes at the controversial Radford Park scheme, at the former Laindon School site.

A potential third phase of homes was also revealed at the latest Basildon Council meeting.

Protests were carried out against the first phase of 186 homes which is currently being carried out by Bellway Homes.

News of a potential third wave, along with the second, has shocked campaigners. Resident and former councillor Vic York, 66, of Buller Walk, said: “It would be an absolute nightmare.

“Planning in Laindon is just so bitty, noone has taken a view on the whole plan for the area.

“The council should be well within its rights to put a stop to any more housing in Laindon until a proper masterplan is created.”

Julian Kenyon, a spokesman for Bellway, confirmed another building phase was possible, but would have to go through the council’s local development framework plan for housing.

He said it was too early to say how many houses could be built.

Jilly Hyde, a Laindon Park councillor, revealed the plans at the meeting where members discussed the proposed second phase.

Mrs Hyde said the second phase alone would impact badly on roads.

She told the meeting: “Parking would be abysmal. The traffic has already been appalling during the last 12 weeks.”

Councillors from all political parties said they were concerned the phase two plans would badly affect traffic in the High Road and other infrastructure in Laindon.
