AN ECLECTIC mix of canine haute couture, formica flowers and baseball, formed the backdrop for a new art exhibition in Westcliff.

Artist Duncan Crossley, 39, opened his show, Drunk on Freedom, at the Tap gallery, in North Road, showing seven pieces of art.

Duncan, who lives in Westcliff and has a studio in Park Street, Southend, studied art at university, but has been working in the building trade ever since.

He said: “I have always wanted to get back into art and I took three weeks off work to set this up.”

He said he has been working on the art exhibited for the past five years.

He said: “What I was trying to do was make pieces which looked like they were made by different people.

“It has been really nice to live like an artist for the past two or three weeks. This is a hobby for me. I do this like someone else would go fishing.”

The exhibition is open Thursdays and Fridays, between 10am and 2pm, and Saturdays and Sundays, between 10am and 4pm, until Friday, December 11.
