THE former Woolworths in Leigh Broadway has been reopened as a Tesco Express.

The shop, which has been empty since the firm went bust at the start of the year, has been reborn as a convenience store, creating 13 new jobs.

Shoppers browsed the aisles from 8am yesterday, with the official opening carried out at 10.30am by pupils from Leigh North Street Junior School, who also picked up a £500 donation.

Also benefiting from the opening was Leigh Town Council’s Christmas Lights Fund, with council leader Margaret Cotgrove collecting a £1,000 donation.
