A McFLURRY of film crews crowded round a Basildon fast food restaurant for a new TV commercial.

Lights, cameras and plenty of action could be seen at McDonald’s, at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park, on Friday.

Passing motorists got a portion of surprise with their burgers and fries as they watched the production leap into action.

Two huge studio lights and vintage American cars could be seen in the car park, most of which was closed for filming.

It was the first of three McDonald’s restaurants to be chosen to feature in a forthcoming advertising campaign. The others are in London.

It was an extra special day for Sel Isikgun, 26, who runs the restaurant as assistant franchisee with her parents, as she used to produce commercials.

Sel, from Billericay, took charge of both the kitchen and the film set for the occasion.

She said: “It’s like a dream come true. I was in my element, working with all the people I used to work with, and then filming at my own family store.

“I couldn’t wait to show my parents the other side of my world. It was a chance for them to see how I work as a production manager.”

Since leaving the advertising industry, Sel has helped her family run the leisure park restaurant and four other McDonald’s in the district.

But she said the experience of being on a film set again was fantastic.

The film crew worked on the advert from early in the morning, before calling it a wrap.

The commercial is expected to air on TV in the summer.
