THE A13 had to be closed after a serious crash between two cars.
A currently unknown number of people had to be airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following the crash, which happened on the Southend-bound carriageway at Wennington near Rainham, around 11am.
It stranded drivers as the road had to be closed on both Southend and London-bound carriageways, while police and ambulance workers worked at the scene.
The road was still believed to be closed on Tuesday afternoon.
