SIX fundraisers are set to row 100 miles along the River Thames in a 24-hour rowing marathon.

The group of men, dubbed “the Brightside Six”, will be doing the caper from Leigh all the way to Windsor, in aid of Help the Heroes.

The team is made up of Billericay residents John Worricker, Eddy Heisterkamp, Nir Barak, Michael Wild, Serge Sarramegna and Joe Lane – all of whom have a close connection with the town’s Brightside School.

Their first fundraising challenge was to climb Ben Nevis and they raised £7,000 for a new school minibus.

Now they are preparing to clamber into their rowing boat and heave it along the Thames on Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9, in aid of the Armed Forces charity.

They plan to reach Windsor within 24 hours, without stopping.

The event will be officially launched on Easter Monday, at Billericay Town Football Club, where the Brightside Six will be taking part in sponsored rowing machine challenge.

Some proceeds from the game – Billericay versus Hornchurch – will also be donated towards the challenge and live bands and other events will be laid on.
