ANNA Waite will no longer have responsibility for planning in a newly reshuffled Southend Council Cabinet, it was announced today.

Council leader, Nigel Holdcorft, revealed portfolio holders will increase from eight to nine with a new member of the cabinet, councillor Tony Cox, becoming executive councillor for public protection and waste.

He replaces Ian Robertson, who will now be responsible for enterprise, tourism and regeneration. John Lamb, who held this post in the last administration, will now concentrate on his role of deputy leader under the new title of deputy leader of portfolio.

Mrs Waite, who has had to steer the council through some controversial planning decisions such as the Southend Airport runway extension and the Priory Crescent road improvements, has swapped posts with Mark Flewitt and will now be responsible for his former role of social care, health and housing.

Andrew Moring retains his role as executive councillor for corporate support services, with Roger Hadley retaining responsibility for children and learning.

Derek Jarvis will also remain responsible for culture.
