DUST and noise from a proposed concrete recycling plant will be tightly controlled, the site’s owner has claimed.

Engineering firm Brockwell and Sons made the promise after residents raised fears about possible pollution from their concrete crushing machine, which is set to process about 30,000 tonnes of construction waste per year.

The recycling site, in Charfleets Industrial Estate, off Long Road, Canvey, was granted planning permission by Essex County Council, and it is expected to start working in the next few weeks.

John Snow, speaking on behalf of the company, said the facility would be “subject to planning and wider environmental controls which are designed to minimise noise, dust and other potential emissions”.

However, the firm would not say what specific controls would be put in place.

The site will take construction and demolition waste, such as concrete and stone, and turn it into crushed aggregate for use in future construction projects.

Mr Snow said the site would benefit the community.

He added: ‘We are extremely pleased with the decision from Essex County Council. We can now take and treat construction and demolition waste, and turn it into something really useful.

”This helps us stay competitive, helps the environment and helps us to continue to employ local people.”
