Basildon Council chiefs say they have no plans to install additional toilet facilities at Wick Country Park.
The blow comes as some users of the beauty spot, off Tresco Way, Wickford, complained there are no facilities open round-the-clock for park users.
Val Smith, 64, of The Wick, said: “There aren’t any toilets over there open during the day. If you go for a walk or take the grandchildren over the park and you need to go, it’s just tough luck.
“It’s a real shame because it’s such a wonderful park and is very popular. I would hate to think people are being put off going there because of the lack of loos.”
However, Steve Prewer, Basildon Council’s manager of open spaces, said: “Wick Country Park is a local park which has a pavilion with toilet facilities.
“These facilities are only open when the pavilion is open and the ranger is on site.
“As the ranger serves several sites, he is unable to be there at all times.
“The park is a local park with a local focus, the nearest houses being just 200 metres away. When events are held there the pavilion is open at all times.
“There are no plans to install any alternative toilet facilities.”
