GET on your bike to enter a new competition this weekend.

Cyclists aged 16 years and older can saddle up this Sunday and take part in Urban Pursuit - an event which starts and finishes in Chalkwell Park.

It runs from 10am until 3pm and features checkpoint challenges taking riders from one corner of Southend to the other in a bid to solve riddles and clues.

Teams of three to four are needed – all on their bikes - and competitors will be racing against the clock as well as their opponents.

Those taking part will also get the chance to refuel after their exertions with a free barbecue in Chalkwell Park.

Councillor Mark Flewitt, Southend Council’s Executive Councillor for Planning and Transport, urged residents to take part in Urban Pursuit.

He said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people to enjoy discovering Southend in a new way and to flex their cycling muscles and test their ingenuity all at the same time.

“I hope as many residents as possible enter this invigorating challenge. Cyclists can be of any ability and fitness level to participate in the event. It’s all about having fun."

To take part all you need to do is register via www.cyclesouthend.co.uk and turn up at Chalkwell Park with your bike.
