THE latest plan to redevelop Shoebury Garrison for housing has been recommended for approval by Southend Council.

Plans to build a mix of 97 affordable and private houses on the 11-acre stretch of land at Gunnery Hill have been put forward, following a series of on-site reports and surveys investigating issues surrounding traffic, refuse storage as well as the conservation area.

If given the green light, the development will comprise a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom houses, with ten per cent of the houses being set aside for affordable housing.

This latest application will take the total number of new homes for the Garrison up to 465, as outlined in the original application made in 2004.

The report concluded there would be an adequate number of car parking spaces for the development and there would be no considerable impact on the character or appearance of the conservation area as a result of the development.

Located within the development is the carriage and wagon shed, a Grade II listed building, which developers say will be preserved throughout the building work.

This application will complete the final phase of the scheme undertaken by Country and Metropolitan Homes, on the condition samples of the building materials will be approved by Southend Council.
