PLANS to banish chewing gum from a popular high street have been approved.
Billericay Town Council has approved a £5,000 scheme to scrub up the paving in the town's High Street, removing ugly marks of gum, bird droppings and grease.
The scheme will see industrial cleaning vans using high-pressure hoses used on the road.
But it was not praised by all councillors.
The town council will now be seeking approval from Basildon Council and Essex County Councilf for the works.
