A WOMAN was saved when a neighbour heard her smoke alarm.

The woman, aged in her twenties, was asleep in her first floor flat in Furtherwick Road, Canvey, while food was still cooking in a pan on her stove around 6.50am on Saturday.

But her neighbour heard the smoke alarm and rang the fire service, who stopped the pan before it caught fire and aired out the smoke with a special fan.

The woman had breathed in some smoke and was given oxygen by the fire crews, but turned down paramedics' treatment and was left at home after the smoke was removed.
