POLICE trying to trace the perpetrators of a vicious assault and robbery have released CCTV pictures.

A 31-year-old man was approached by two men while he was in a shop in London Road, Westcliff between 2:20am and 2:35am on Thursday, April 1.

They started to assault him and when the victim managed to run out into the street at the junction with West Road they punched, kicked and headbutted him.

A knife was seen but it was not used in the attack.

The victim sustained injuries to his nose which required reconstructive surgery.

Officers believe the same men are also responsible for a robbery at about 2.40am on the same day on the same road.

They approached a 48-year-old man and demanded cash while holding a knife. In that incident, the victim threw a few pounds in change at the men before running away.

The first suspect is described as being white, aged 21-22, 5’9”, with short brown hair and he was wearing a grey and red hooded top.

The second man is described as white, aged about 19, 5’8”, short cropped light brown hair, with a spotty complexion and wearing a grey tracksuit with hooded top.

Dc Ali Enver of Southend CID said: “We would like the public’s help in identifying the two pictured men, so we can speak to them in connection with these incidents. The assault victim was left with a nasty facial injury which has required extensive hospital treatment. It was an unprovoked attack and we’re keen to apprehend those responsible.”
