TOE-tapping tunes and vintage glamour were the order of the day as visitors were transported back in time for a Forties tea dance.

The Navel and Military Club in Royal Terrace, Southend, was the setting for the themed afternoon where visitors were taught well-known dances, including the waltz, by professional dance tutors.

The Hair Raid Shelter hairdressing team was also on hand to complete the looks for the 120 guests by carefully crafting hair in the traditional styles of the era.

Organiser Anna Cooper said: “It was a brilliant day. I got such positive feedback, so many people enjoyed themselves.

“The atmosphere was fantastic.

“It was so popular I had to turn away some people who turned up because there just was not the room for them.

“A2 Jive were doing group dances and teaching people the waltz and there were a lot of people who were sporting retro hair styles.

“People were asking when the next one would be.”
