RESIDENTS are being urged to make their voices heard and respond to an online questionnaire about a proposed green belt development.

Developer Barratt Homes has set up the website to get feedback on its plans for 240 homes at Daws Heath Road, Thundersley.

Campaign group Hands Off Our Green Belt was set up two years ago when it was first revealed Barratt Homes was interested in the 50-acre site.

Paul Saunders, 56, media spokesman for the campaign, said: “We’re asking people to fill in the form and let Barratt Homes know what they think. People are angry because every time we think they’ve gone away, they keep coming back.

“We think it’s still unacceptable, because it’s on green belt.”

One question on the website reads: “What contribution can these new homes make to the community?”

Fellow campaigner Simon Hart, of Daws Heath Road, said the questions were too open ended.

He added: “How do you answer a question like that if you don’t want any building there?

“We are advising people to write something. Sometimes, if you write nothing, it’s counted as a positive response.”

The proposals are for detached and semi-detached houses, as well as some apartments.

The plans show the main access road to the development would be off Firfield Road, a small close, which leads on to the busy junction of Daws Heath Road and Rayleigh Road.

Mr Saunders said: “It will bring absolute chaos. It’s already horrendous there, but this will make it worse.”

Barrett homes was unavailable to comment.
