A CAMPER van has gone up in flames in a possible arson attack.

Fire crews were called to Delimands in Lee Chapel North, Basildon, about 7.30pm this evening after a passer-by alerted them.

The Mercedes van was completely destroyed by the blaze, which also damaged the paintwork of a parked car nearby.

Firefighters from Basildon fire station spent half an hour putting out the fire, which is being treated as suspicious and will be investigated by the fire service and police.

Basildon sub officer Bryan Mansfield said: “The van was well alight when we arrived.

“Crews acted really quickly to stop it spreading further.”
