A GREAT, great grandmother celebrated her 105th birthday by enjoying a nice cup of tea.

Emily Ansell, known as Josie, lived independently until she was 104, but now lives in Cameron House, Pitsea.

Her daughter, Josie Travell, 80, of Upminster, who organised a tea party in honour of her mum, said: “We are all absolutely amazed and pleased she has reached this magnificent age, especially as until May last year she still lived in her own home “She is in good health in mind and body, with a good appetite and sense of humour.”

Mrs Ansell, who was born in West Ham, East London, met her husband, George, while working in a pub.

The couple married in 1926, while he was in the Royal Flying Corps.

They loved dancing and, when George retired, they joined a dancing club and won gold medals in a number of competitions before his death in 1980.

They had seven children, and have 20 grandchildren, 40 great, grandchildren and nine great, great grandchildren.

Mrs Ansell’s daughter added: “She is very family-orientated.

“She has a friendly and out-going disposition and is always willing to help anyone.”
