THE BODY of a man who went missing from his Southend home more than a week ago was found on the seafront this morning.

Darren Carter, 33, from Ambleside Drive was last seen on Thursday, January 13. His family and friends had not heard from him and an appeal was put out by the police to try and find him. They described his disappearance as “extremely out of character”.

Shortly after 10.20am this morning, Southend RNLI were called to reports of a body off the shore near to the Ocean Beach cafe in Eastern Esplanade. The volunteer crew launched their rescue hovercraft and the body was taken to Shoebury Common Slipway where they were met by an ambulance and medical teams.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious. A report will now be prepared for the coroner and an inquest will be held in due course.
