A spate of car break-ins in Thorpe Bay has prompted a crack down by police.

Officers have vowed to increase the number of patrols and hand out advice to motorists in the area after thieves targeted six cars in two days.

Crooks broke into vehicles parked in St James Avenue, St Augustine's Avenue, Daines Way, Ladram Road and Broadclyst Gardens over the weekend.

PC Warren Lamb said: "It appears that thieves are simply walking along roads in the area, trying every car door until they find ones which have been left unlocked.

"Don’t give car thieves an easy ride – always lock your vehicle every single time you leave it unattended.

"Also, remove any temptation for them to force their way into your car by removing all contents and leaving nothing on display which might take their fancy."
