SCHOOLCHILDREN had to be rescued from a lift in a leisure centre after it suddenly stopped working yesterday morning (June 14).
Firefighters from Hawkwell Fire Station were called to Clements Hall Leisure Centre, Clements Hall Way, at 10am to reports a person was stuck in a lift.
When they arrived though, they soon discovered there was actually 11 people in the lift, including eight schoolchildren.
It took the firefighters 20 minutes to get the people out of the lift, with conditions inside being described as “hot and cramped”.
