SALLY Bercow is the latest “celebrity” to speak out against the eviction of Dale Farm.

An evictee herself from the Celebrity Big Brother house, she wrote in her new Sunday Express column her “heart goes out” to the 90 families at Crays Hill.

The wife of Commons Speaker John Bercow said: “The simple fact is there is nowhere else for them to go.”

During time in the Big Brother house she befriended celebrity irish traveller Paddy Doherty of Channel 4’s My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men.

She said: “Gypsies are a recognised ethnic minority, with their own practices and languages. The onus is on authorities to provide travellers with a place to live as they wish, within the law.

“And to many a traveller, that’s living in a caravan alongside their extended families...not down the road in a semi.”

Council leader Tony Ball said he doubted she had ever visited the site, and it was all very well for her to say it from the comfort of her London home.

He added: “We have the backing of the vast majority of residents in Basildon.”
