OVERNIGHT high winds may be the reason problems with overhead power cables bought Hockley to a standstill this morning.
Residents called the Police shortly after 10am after hearing explosions and wires arcing in Spa Road.
Firefighters and Police arrived to find live cables lying across the footpath and immediately closed the road.
And long queues of traffic built up before engineers arrived to fix the problem.
