A TEENAGER has been struck by a car in the shared space scheme on Southend seafront.
The girl, believed to be aged 14, was left with head injuries following the accident outside the Falcon pub, in Marine Parade, at just before 5.30pm on Wednesday.
A Ford Fiesta is believed to have been involved in the collison opposite the junction with Pleasant Road.
The youngster was taken to hospital by ambulance but her condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
An ambulance spokeswoman said the girl’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
She added: “There was one patient and she was conscious and breathing, but had a facial injury.”
“She was treated by ambulance crews at the scene then taken to Southend Hospital.”
A Southend Council spokesman said: “There’s no evidence whatsoever the shared-space scheme contributed to this unfortunate accident, which could have happened anywhere on the road network.
“It’s almost certain the 20 mph speed limit on this stretch of Marine Parade prevented the girl from suffering even more serious injuries.”
