SOUTHEND Leisure and Tennis Centre will launch its first swimming sessions for disabled children on every other Sunday in January 2012.

Managed by Short Breaks Services, the sessions will provide enjoyment and fitness to families who have a disabled child and allow them to take a much needed break from 24-hour care.

The first session will be from 10am till 12pm on Sunday January 29 and will cost £5 per family, with a maximum of two adults and two children per family.

Southend councillor responsible for Culture and Tourism, Derek Jarvis said: “This is a marvellous opportunity for disabled children to gain some independence, get some exercise, and most importantly, have fun.

“Families can take a break from all their hard-work, knowing they are leaving their child in safe, experienced hands with someone they can trust.”

He added: “They can then take advantage of all of Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre’s top-notch facilities for bundles of fun and relaxation.”
