HIGHWAYS bosses have smoothed over Sadlers Farm after motorists were left dealing with a rocky road.

Drivers expressed concerns over a series of sharp ramps on the A130 and A13 after contractors Birse failed to smooth out the difference between old and new tarmac at the notorious junction.

After complaints, Essex County Council got Birse to make the repairs to give drivers an easier ride.

A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “The Sadlers Farm contractor levelled the ramp in question with the rest of the road last night to make a smooth transition for highways users.

“All other ramps on the road will be continually monitored as is normal practice.”

Motorists called the Echo prior to the work being carried out to complain the rocky road could cause an accident.

Keith Barber, of Clinton Road, Canvey , said: “When you’re travelling down there at speeds of 50mph and hit those bumps, your whole car just shakes.

“Your suspension really takes a battering, and there are no health and safety signs at all, which is disgraceful.”

Concerns have been raised over a slip road linking the A130 Canvey Way to the London-bound A13.

Residents claim the slip road brings drivers right into traffic coming off the roundabout, and does not allow for a smooth transition onto the dual carriageway.

James Manston, 54, of Dinant Avenue, Canvey, said: “If you drive through there at the wrong time, when the lights are green for cars to come off the roundabout, you pretty much have to take your life into your own hands, because no one stops for you. You’re brought out right on the edge of the roundabout and I’ve had to jump on my brakes so many times.”

Mr Barber added: “The slip road is so short now, it’s just dangerous. It’s just like the two new awful ones in Basildon . I have no idea why road planners keep designing them this way.”

A council spokesman said: “The Canvey slip road has not changed in length. The only difference is that there are now two dedicated lanes which will vastly improve the traffic flow for those highways users.”

Slip roads have been a source of major concern in roadworks schemes carried out by Essex County Council.

In April, more than 100 people signed an online petition calling for the slip road linking the A127 to Upper Mayne, in Basildon, to be made safer.
