A semi-pro football club will take “serious action” after allegations of racist remarks were made during a match. 

Hashtag United FC welcomed Potters Bar Town on Saturday at the Len Salmon Stadium in Crown Avenue, Basildon. 

During the game, which ended 2-3, a fan allegedly made racist remarks towards an official.

In a statement, the club said: “Following today’s match there has been an allegation that a racist remark was made towards an official by a fan.  

“We have a zero tolerance policy on incidences of such nature and are already conducting an investigation into the matter.  

“Should we find the persons responsible, we will be taking serious action.  

“We’d like to place on record our sincerest apologies to those affected and we will do our utmost to find the persons responsible as soon as possible.” 

The Tags are 11th in the Isthmian Premier Division.

The team will be moving to a new home at the Parkside Stadium next season.

The change was confirmed in late February.
