THE Conservatives have increased their majority on Castle Point Council after seeing off the Ukip surge.
Ukip and Canvey Island Independent Party had agreed to share power if they could overturn the Tories fragile majority, of just one.
But instead, the Conservatives increased their majority to three after poaching Canvey Island East from Canvey Island Independent Party.
Conservative party leader Colin Riley said: “I’m delighted. It has been a tremendous campaign with great support from Government ministers.
“We are really delighted because I think it shows the people of Castle Point want to have a stable council."
