Southend will take centre stage next week when a new TV series gets broadcast for the first time.

An entire episode of Susan Calman’s new series, Grand Week By the Sea, will show her enjoying all that Southend has to offer.

Few details of the episode have been announced so far, but a synopsis for the show suggests she’ll be spending plenty of time on the seafront.

It reads: “Susan visits seaside resorts around the UK, beginning in Southend-on-Sea in Essex,, home to the world's largest pleasure pier and the famous narrow-gauge railway.

“Susan also creates her own ice cream sundae, takes part in a training exercise with a local lifeboat crew, and talks to Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson about why she has been coming to the town since she was a child.”

The Scottish comedian and TV presenter’s new show has seen her spend time at a number of other top UK seaside resorts such as St Ives, Great Yarmouth and Brighton.

It follows success in her previous Channel Five show, Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out in Yorkshire.

It saw her travel 126 miles across Yorkshire where she sampled the famous Whitby fish and chips and Mother Shipton’s Cave along the way.

Alongside other TV work with CBBC, Susan has also written and starred in two series of her radio sitcom Sisters, two series of stand-up show Susan Calman is Convicted and a series of stand-up show Keep Calman Carry On.

Her new series, Grand Week by the Sea, gets underway on Channel 5 on Monday evening.

The episode featuring Southend will be shown at 8pm on Thursday, July 1.
