AN internet tribute page set up for Eleanor McGrath has attracted more than 5,400 members.

The sympathy shown for 14-year-old Eleanor continues to grow as every day, friends and strangers sign up on the social networking website, Facebook.

Eleanor, of Bishopsteignton, Shoebury, died in hospital four days after a car ploughed into her and a group of friends, walking along Tyrone Road, Thorpe Bay, on Friday, March 6.

The R.I.P Eleanor McGrath (02 June 94)-(10 March 09) group was set up by friend Lizzie Albon and Eleanor’s cousin, Rebecca Routh.

In less than five days, it had already attracted more than 5,400 members.

The dedication at the top of the page reads: “After the crash that happened on Friday March 6, 2009, Eleanor and others were injured, but it was Eleanor that was sadly taken away from everyone that knew and loved her.

“Even people that didn’t know Eleanor all feel for her family at this very sad time.

“She was the most gorgeous and amazing person, who always had a big smile on her face and she will be missed deeply by her family, friends and others. May she now rest in peace.”

Her cousin, Rebecca’s message reads: “Rest in peace, my amazing, gorgeous cousin. You’re going to be missed so much. I’m gonna make sure I look out for the brightest star in the sky. I will never forget you love you.”

In a later post she comments on the many people who have signed up and joined the group, She says: “Eleanor, look how much love you’re getting. Just proves how much you meant to everyone. Hope you like the group. It’s all for you, honey.”

Eleanor, a pupil at Southend High School for Girls, had been predicted to get A and A* grades at GCSE.

The memorial group is open to all Facebook users and can be found by searching on the words, RIP Eleanor McGrath.

Many of the members are friends and relatives, but many are also people who never knew Eleanor but have been moved to join and leave messages.

Meanwhile, the teenage boy who was badly hurt in the accident is still said to be in a critical, but stable condition. Jack Horton, 16, from Southend, is still in Queen’s Hospital, London.
