Possible Emmerdale spoilers ahead for tonight's (August 29) episode.

Emmerdale fans are in for a huge plot twist tonight involving John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) and a character previously thought dead.

Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller, has started to have doubts about his husband after discovering that he has been lying to him about a number of things.

Aaron and John are currently away from the village and were, until recently, enjoying their time together in what was thought to be a holiday home.

Things took a turn when a neighbour called Marge, commented about how it was nice to see people in the house as it had been empty for a long time.

When the topic turned to buying the property, it was revealed that the owner of the home had actually died a year earlier.

Troubled by this news, Emmerdale's Aaron returned to a mysterious door he had found the day before and broke in.

Here, he found a child’s bed, medals and a framed newspaper insert of a young boy saving a dog.

When John returned, Aaron confronted him about the property not being a holiday let and, instead, being his childhood home.

John said his mum had died of cancer last year and that this had impacted him greatly.

Relating to the story, because of his grandmother's passing, Aaron and John connected further.

Despite the pair mostly being on the same page again, there were still some small concerns.

John will notice Aaron's change in behaviour and attempt to make sure he doesn't question their marriage, opting to drug his whisky.

Discussing the story, actor Danny Miller said: "His [John’s] behaviour changes and he becomes a bit erratic."

He added: "He’s going out all the time, and he’s out for these long runs. Aaron knows he’s used it personally as an excuse in the past when he wants to get away, and he’s wondering what he’s struggling with.

"He puts two and two together and starts to work out that maybe Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) and Robert (Ryan Hawley) are right [about John]."

However, in a big twist that is sure to shock fans tonight on ITV, it will be revealed that Mackenzie Boyd is, in fact, not dead, and is being held hostage in an underground bunker, according to The Sun.

For weeks now, fans have been under the impression that the character was killed off when he was shot in the back with an arrow before being whacked over the head with a rock by John.

In upcoming scenes, John will enter the murky bunker and shift a blanket to reveal Mack's face.

Emmerdale can be watched live and on demand via ITV1 and ITVX.
