Broadcaster and best-selling author Richard Osman will front a new quiz show, and fans are excited to see his “latest brilliant idea” come to life.
The announcement comes following Osman’s departure from his game show, House of Games, after nine years.
A big name in the quizzing world, Richard also created and featured on Pointless, but now he’ll host ITV’s latest game show, The Golden Elevators.
The series turns A or B questions into a game involving 10 contestants who will take on each other and two elevators in the hopes of reaching the penthouse and a huge cash jackpot.
Richard Osman to host new game show The Golden Elevators
Richard Osman’s new venture will see him present the show from the lobby of a skyscraper, and every question presents two possible answers, each represented by an elevator.
Players must confer, debate, persuade and mislead each other before stepping into the lift of their choice before the doors close.
Correct answers mean the lift moves closer to the top, but if they choose the wrong lift, anyone in the incorrect lift goes straight back down to the lobby and heads home.
The jackpot is split between everyone who makes it to the penthouse.
On This Morning today (May 14), Richard discussed his latest book that’s now available in paperback, and he shared the premise of his new show.
He said there’s always someone who doesn’t make it to the top and that the game involves lots of thought-out gameplay as players decide whether to help or hinder other people in the competition in a bid to progress themselves.
The biggest ever British game show jackpot winners
Richard also clarified that the title choice includes ‘elevators’ instead of ‘lifts’ because he worked with an American team on the show.
Announcing the new show, Richard said: “I'm absolutely thrilled to be hosting The Golden Elevators.
“I signed up the moment they showed me the game.
“It's so simple, but it takes such skill to win — I've never seen a quiz show quite like it.
“I really can't wait for ITV viewers to see The Golden Elevators.
“Or, as I call it, The Golden Lifts.”
Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime Commissioning at ITV, said: “We are excited to bring The Golden Elevators, hosted by the exceptional King of gameshows Richard Osman, to ITV.
“It’s fast-paced, full of twists and turns, and with play-along perfect for primetime.”
