CHILDREN and pensioners tried their taste buds out as they came together to give their verdict on potentially prize winning treats.
Youngsters from St Mary's School in Kelvedon visited residents at St Dominic's, also in Kelvedon, to try some sandwiches and jams which are in the running for a prestigious prize.
Thursday Cottage, a jam maker based in Tiptree, and Raynors, a Chelmsford sandwich business, are hoping to be crowned the East of England Co-op's Producer of the Year.
Bosses from the businesses joined pupils from class 1C and residents as the food gurus for the day had their say on the offerings.
Kelvedon St Mary’s teacher Sara Clouting, said: "This was a magical experience for our pupils and a wonderful opportunity to do something special with our neighbours.
"Most of the children were in favour of the sweet treats while their older counterparts favoured something savoury."
St Dominic’s manager Tracy Delannoy said: "Their faces lit up. Afternoon tea and the company of young people gave them an incredible boost and it was a joy to be a part of it."
