Canvey to Southend Pier and back to raise money for charity.
Led by Tracy Hodges, the women laced up their trainers for the walk, which included a stroll to the end of the pier and back for good measure.
The ten-and-a-half-hour trek was in aid of the Danny Green Fund, which was set up in memory of Danny, 11, who died in July 2012 from brain and spinal cancer.
Mrs Hodges, 44, of Southfalls Road, Canvey, was joined by friends Lainie Conyer-Burke, 44, Lisa Goodwin, 49, Julia Perry, 48, all from Canvey and Janice Fudge, 57, from Benfleet.
Mrs Hodges said: “Two years ago, I did a run for Danny and I thought I should do more. I got my friends from Slimming World involved and off we went. It was a really difficult day and we all have blisters to show for it.”
Mrs Hodges, 44, a teaching assistant at Leigh Beck Junior School, Canvey, said: “I work at Danny’s old school, so the fund is very close to my heart. At first we thought it would be 22 miles, but by the time we got to the end of the Pier and back, it added almost three more.”
So far, the women have raised £1,300, which will go to help young sufferers of the same condition as Danny, posterior fossa syndrome.
