CHILDREN loved dressing up as their favourite Roald Dahl characters for a special day at their school.
All the pupils at Leigh Beck Infant and Nursery Academy, in Point Road, Canvey, got into the spirit.
There were BFGs, Fantastic Mr Foxes and Mike Teavees a-plenty as the children recreated the iconic characters of some of the popular books.
The school was celebrating 100 years since the birth of the author, whose books included Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and The Twits.
As well as dressing up, the children also had their own chocolate factory for the day.
The school’s menu was also themed, with wormy spaghetti and other “scrumdiddlyumptious” food.
Acting headteacher Helen Greensill said: “Roald Dahl is a big part of children’s learning. He is an important author for both children and adults. Even though we are an infant school, we encourage the children to learn about the author.”
Roald Dahl’s books have sold 250million copies worldwide. He died in 1990, having written 48 books.
