MORE than 50 people have been arrested during the first two weeks of Essex Police’s summer anti-drink and drug driving campaign.
The campaign started on June 1 and will run until June 30.
During the first fortnight, 35 people have been arrested on suspicion of drink driving offences and 17 on suspicion of drug offences.
Adam Pipe, Casualty Reduction Manager at Essex Police, said: “Driving while under the influence of drink and drugs ruins lives and devastates communities.
“I believe the people of Essex find this kind of behaviour completely unacceptable and I would urge anyone who knows of someone who drink or drug drives to contact us.
“No-one wants to experience how it feels to lose a loved one because of someone else’s thoughtlessness.
“If you are arrested during our campaign, and convicted, you will be named, you will be shamed, and your photo will be put out to the public.”
If you know anyone who is drink or drug driving you are urged to contact Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
