As the royal couple got ready to make their vows, hundreds of residents across south Essex were getting stuck into their own celebrations.
Roads across the county were closed as communities got together to hold street parties for the big day, with neighbours pulling out all the stops to get into the patriotic spirit of the afternoon.
They joined thousands of fellow organisers, who threw bashes of their own up and down the country to celebrate and strengthen ties within the community.
Rosie Gorham, 38, organised a party for residents of Leighton Avenue, in Leigh-on-Sea.
She said: “It was a beautiful day, we really couldn’t have asked for anything better. An event like this really brings the community together, and it has been lovely to get to meet our neighbours and celebrate.
“We had lots of garden games, music, and a barbecue - there was so much going on and all the children got to play together which was great to see.”
Meanwhile, residents, families, and staff at Beaufort Lodge, St Vincent’s Road, Westcliff-on-Sea enjoyed the royal festivities.
Senior carer Loraine Watson said: “It was absolutely fantastic, our residents had a great time and it was lovely to see all ages coming together to celebrate.
“We had tea and cake, activities out in the garden, and many of our older residents even got up to have a dance.
“It was wonderful to get involved in such a traditional way.”
