So many historic buildings across south Essex have stood the test of time.
Whether people in 100 years time will be able to say the same about modern buildings going up today, remains to be seen.
Did you know there are more than 150 listed buildings across Southend and countless more homes and sites with historical value.
These black and white images of iconic houses, shops and street scenes from Southend have all recently be unearthed from our archives.
All the photos are believed to have been taken in the mid to late 1930s.
