AN OBLIVIOUS drunk driver flagged down cops for a lift after he had driven for two miles with a metal fence under his car.
The man, who had parked his black Audi in a ditch before asking PC Stevens for a lift to Essex, told officers he 'had a little issue with his car'.
He was arrested after he failed a breath and drugs test.
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "On December 7 in the early hours, an optimistic fella flagged down PC Stevens, to ask for a lift to Essex.
"When asked why, he explained that he'd had a little issue with his car.
"That was in fact a wee bit of an understatement.
"Fortunately for him, he was only slightly injured and more fortunately, no-one else was injured.
"Less fortunately, he failed a breath test and a drugs wipe test and we await blood results prior to assessing what this male may get charged with."
