A fire was started deliberately in a derelict bungalow in Langdon Hills.
Fire crews rushed to Dry Street at roughly 9.30pm last night.
On arrival firefighters reported that both the ground floor and the roof were alight.
Crews worked to bring the fire under control and extinguish it by 10:55pm.
The bungalow has suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as deliberate.
Two fire crews from Basildon attended, as well as one from Corringham.
