POLICE are stepping up patrols in Southend town cenre following a violent incident which saw two armed thugs force their way into a home before attacking a man.
Police were called around 1am yesterday with reports that two men had forced entry into an address in York Road, Southend and seriously assaulted a man.
Southend Labour councillor Matt Dent, who represents Kursaal ward, said police were increasing patrols.
He added: "In relation to the violent incident in the early hours of this morning on York Road, I have spoken with the community safety team at the council and there will be increased patrols by them and the police over the weekend.
"Police would like to speak to anyone who lives nearby and has a doorbell camera or CCTV or was driving in the area between 12.30am and 1.30am and has dash cam footage.
"They would also like to speak to those who were in the area around the time and heard or saw any suspicious or unusual behaviour."

The victim, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head and remains in hospital in a stable, but critical condition.
