A HOSPITAL nurse has been nominated for a national award.
Southend Hospital’s clinical nurse, Linda Lio, is in the running to win the patient safety team of the year prize in the prestigious Health Service Journal Patient Safety Awards in November.
Bosses say Linda, who specialises in acute kidney injury, has been shortlisted because of the “huge impact” her role has had on patients.
Its success means the role could also be rolled out at Basildon and Broomfield hospitals.
Linda said: “Acute kidney injury is a patient safety concern and potentially life-threatening, I support clinical teams to help improve a patient’s care, their outcomes and reduce harm from the injury. Every member of staff looking after our patients can make a real difference.”
Clare Panniker, chief exec of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust which runs Southend Hospital, added: “To be recognised in these national awards is a fantastic achievement, it demonstrates that our dedicated staff and departments are striving to improve the safety of patients in our care.”
