CANVEY recorded their third league win on the bounce as Jay Curran helped himself to a brace against bottom club Carshalton, writes Glen Eckett.

The Gulls took a second minute lead when Rickie Hayles squared for Bradley Woods-Garness, and his shot was brought under control by Curran before he smashed home from close range.

Louis Dennis - who has just extended his loan spell from Dagenham & Redbridge for a third and final month - wasted a good chance to double their lead on 16 minutes when his tame effort was comfortably saved by Nick Hamann.

Carshalton's Jordan Clarke managed to get in behind new Canvey centre back Nicolas Bondon, but the Frenchman exerted enough pressure to force Clarke into a weak shot at Ashlee Jones' feet.

Canvey doubled their advantage on 54 minutes when Ashley Dumas' accurate cross was headed home by Curran.

And the hosts' day got worse soon after when Tommy Brewer was shown a straight red card for a bad challenge on Kevin Dobinson.

And they were reduced to nine men 12 minutes from time when left back Ricardo Joseph was given his marching orders.

Having already been booked for foul on Curran in the first half, he committed a second bookable tackle on Rob King.

Sub Mitchell Gilbey and Woods-Garness both went close to a third goal for the Gulls, but they were content with a 2-0 win which moved them up to eighth in the Ryman Premier table.

Canvey: Jones, Bondon, Dumas, Orlu, Hayles, King (Gilbey 82), Curran, Dobinson, Woods-Garness, Dennis, Hawes (Chatting 82).
