YOU’RE always going to get setbacks and defeats in football but it’s how you react to them that matters the most.

That’s the situation we currently find ourselves in after suffering a cruel defeat at Chesterfield but it’s up to us to show that losing there was just a small slip up by getting three points at Wycombe tomorrow.

Wycombe is always a tough place to go and I think there’s only ever been one goal between us every time we’ve played since I’ve been at Southend.

They’re very hardworking and we know we’re in for a very difficult afternoon.

I obviously hope to be contention to play after missing the last two matches with my groin injury because I’m terrible having to watch our games.

I’m desperate for the lads to do well and I get too in the game because of that.

Whether you’re playing or not I think it’s important to remain right behind those involved because we’re a squad of players with the same aim and that’s winning promotion for Southend this season.

I was gutted when the late goal went in at Chesterfield because we didn’t deserve to lose.

But we’ve taken confidence from our performance, especially as Chesterfield are being tipped for promotion this season.

We’ve learnt from what went wrong and now it’s time for us to go and put things right by getting a good result at Wycombe.

SINGING AT THEIR SUPPERS

THE night before the Chesterfield match it was the turn of Adam Thompson and Jack Edwards to have to sing to the rest of the squad at our team meal.

They both look like they could actually be in a boy band but their singing proved that’s very unlikely to happen and it was very amusing to watch and hear.

PICTURE TIME

WE had our team picture taken this week and as part of the photo-shoot a corporate client of the club had a photograph with us and his dogs.

It was all going quite well until one of the dogs took a disliking to Jack Payne and I think Jack is still running away as we speak!

After the photo-shoot we all went to Southend Pier and had a few more pictures taken there as well.

One of those was with the Rendezvous Casino who brought along a couple of representatives.

That included a lady dressed in what I guess you would describe as a bunny costume.

She was lifted up for one of the pictures which sounded like a fantastic idea.

Unfortunately for her though, neither Dan Bentley or Paul Smith were among those holding her and those who were actually in it somehow managed to drop her - much to her dissatisfaction.
